Swan Valley, Idaho, is a scenic community on the banks of the
South Fork of the Snake River--the best wild trout fishery in
the lower 48 states.
Also nearby is Palisades Reservoir, which is known for its
boating and recreational activities.
The
Caribou Mountains to the south, the Palisades Range to the
east, and the Big Hole Range to the north make Swan Valley a
spectacular place to live. As
a part of the Yellowstone ecosystem, Swan Valley is surrounded
by tremendous tracks of wilderness providing unsurpassed
outdoor recreational opportunities. The area is home to elk,
deer, moose, bear, mountain lions, mountain goats, fox,
coyote, bald eagle, golden eagles, blue heron, sand hill
cranes, several species of ducks, grouse, and, of course,
several flocks of wintering swans.
With over 60 inches of annual snow fall,
Swan
Valley is truly a winter wonderland. Grand Targhee,
Jackson Hole,
and Kelly Canyon Ski resorts are all less than an hour away.
The area offers incredible snowmobiling, cross country skiing,
ice fishing on Palisades Reservoir, and year-round fishing on
the South Fork.
The Swan Valley community is actually comprised of three
small towns. Swan Valley itself has a population of 213; the
small town of
Irwin
has 125 year-round residents, and Palisades is home to 68.
During the summer months, the population swells to between
2,000 and 3,000 summer residents and visitors.
Major services and airports are only an hour away as are
Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Grand Teton National Park, the world
famous Grand Teton Mountain Range, and adjoining Yellowstone
National Park. All of these attributes make for a unique
quality of life in this unspoiled river valley. |
